Hi, Im Baz When I was wet behind the ears I wanted to go motor racing so I became a mechanic. Started out with a BMC dealer. Loved my cooper S. Then worked for a Mazda/Alfa dealer. When the Mazda R100 was released I just had to have one. What a beast, went hard for its day. I was lucky to attend the first Mazda training group on rotaries and Yamamoto San the instuctor modified the carby and distributor on my R100. It transformed it! I guess one could lay claim to the first modified Rotor in Oz. Rallyed the R100 with good results until the dealer changed franchise to Datsun. Worked in the Nissan dealer organisation from then until the late 80's. Started rallying with Datto's in the 70 Bicentenary trial & won enough cash to buy two new 1600s. My god, I was in love, the first car i could not break. Took delivery of my second 1600 in August 70 and immediatly fitted a 1600SSS head & cam.(you could buy them in Aus back then) a set of 40mm webers off an Alfa and an auto diff. My first real rally 1600, the cars in the Bicentenary trial had to be standard. That car started a long long line of modified Dattos. |
